Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Velha Goa

The Church of St. Francis of Assisi which was built in 1661 and built by Portuguese Viceroyalty of India.The Church of St. Francis of Assisi which stands together as convent and established by the eight Portuguese Franciscan friars who landed in Goa in 1517. It is a three tier facade and is in the central niche which holds the statue of St. Michael. The main entrance of the church is decorated with circular pilasters and rosette brand. The central nave is barrel-vaulted while the crossing is rib-vaulted which supports the choir. It is the internal buttress walls and also separates the chapel with the gallery on the top.

St. Francis of Assisi was an Italian Catholic Friar and he later become associated with patronage of animals along with natural environment. It also becomes customary of the Catholic and Anglican churches which held ceremonious blessing the animals on the feast day on 4 October. He is often remembered as the patron Saint of animals and is liked by them. After, he got authorized by the Pope he went on withdrawing himself from others. The Church stands as a testimony for his good deeds and people across all religion visit this church in large numbers.

Church of St. Francis of Assisi is situated at Velha (old) Goa city, north Goa district. It was built in 1661 by Portuguese ruler; its denomination is Roman Catholic.
