Salaulim Dam, Goa

Salaulim Dam is located on the Salaulim River which is a tributary of the Zuari River in Goa,India and is an integral part of the Salaulim Irrigation Project which helps with irrigation and drinking water supply. The river dam is initially planned to irrigate a lot more area but it has also become a beautiful tourist spot. The construction of the dam started in 1976 along with completion in 2000 and the project is located at Sirga which is about 5 Km from the Sanguem Town. The dam consists of earth-cum-masonry type structure along with a volume content of water up-to 2.714 million Cubic Metre. The reservoir also has a botanical garden which does have colorful hedges and also green lawns with perfect relaxation with picnic spot which are formed here.

If the person talks about the dam spread over an area of more than 24 Sq. Km which the pleasant surprise for visitors as it has got a semi-circular outlet along with splashes which is 50 Feet down and it again falls down to the 100 Feet deep chasm. Further the water moves and strikes the riverbed giving a breathtaking mist cover over the dam and is also a great place for bird-watching and the visit can be combined with a nearby visit to Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary.

Salaulim Dam is a famous tourist place in south Goa which is located on Salaulim River. Its water spread in 24 square kilometres area land and its total height is 42.7 metres (140 ft) and total length 1,004 metres (3,294 ft). It was started to build from 1975 and completed in 2000 which built by Goa Water Resources Department. It is a big source of the agriculture irrigation and for drinking water supply in south Goa. It provides agriculture irrigation for 14,326 hectares (35,400 acres) area land.
