Rice Crops, Goa

Rice is a staple food all across Asia and different food products are made from rice whether it is the noodles or the rice bran oil which gives the food a taste that cannot be compared with any other oil. The taste and hygienic food with perfect blend for all seasons and all reasons. The mouth watering delicacies gets prepared with it and it also gives the people a way to feel full with no morsel getting wasted as it accommodate easily in stomach. The crop is grown by the better seeds and it is sold in India by zonal agricultural offices.

Rice is the staple food crop of Goa and the fish with it makes the best of the food which is sumptuous with the crops cultivated over an area of around 42, 973 ha with a production of 1,55, 818 mt. annually. Average productivity of the crop is about 3, 399 Kg/ha. The crop is cultivated in three different topographical situations i.e. rainfed uplands ( Morod) and the rainfed lowlands with (Kher) and coastal saline lands (Khazans). The Government has helped many of the tillers to get the best of the food crops. The difficulties related to growth of rice can be found due to the following reason:

. The socio-economic situations prevailing in state creates much of the disregard for the food.

. Non-availability of labor who are tillers along with lack of mechanization.

. Threshing and processing facilities are not so hi-tech which leads to spoiling of crop.

. Threatening the cultivation of the major food crop is the marketing infrastructure because of the middleman culture in India.

Nowadays, the new cultivation is all about organic foods and rice is not away from it. The favorite food of the Goanese has got the organic taste in it with more of Nitrogen and the fertilizers applied is the straight fertilizers which are better in terms of economical and with better crop response.

Water management is the most important aspect as it consists of good watering system in the crop field making it with the water loving plant. The proper good puddling is by churning the soil and the good crop growth comes out with irrigation and less weed infestation.

The harvesting season brings happiness when the grain is separated avoiding damage with better quality for rice output through machinery like harvesters and threshers or through manual labor all according to wishes.
