Pineapple fruit cultivates in high rain fall area which required approx 100-150 cm rain fall and suitable temperature is 22 to 32 centigrade. It is a humid tropical climate's fruit. Goa state's people cultivate it approx 336 hectares area land. Its annual production is 5,040 tones of the Goa state. Generally, this fruit originally, come from Brazil country by Portuguese colony ruler.

Pineapple is one of the most lovable fruit around the world and it is one of the commercial fruit crops of Goa. The fruit was first cultivated in Brazil and spread throughout the world enriching people with its rich mineral values and also the nutrients making it one of the valuable food. The cultivation of pineapple is not only confined to Goa but also across the Peninsular India and the hilly areas of the North-Eastern regions of the country. With Goa being the only place with the highest number of cultivation in an area of 336 hectares with an annual production of 5,040 tonnes.

With the most suitable temperature which is required for the growth of this crop it is still the crop which takes much of the land preparation and also the care which is given to the crop makes the right yield. First, thing which is necessary for good yield is that the soil has to be well-ploughed and it is made fine through tilling. The ideal time of planting is from April-May or August-October and it is done in order to avoid the harvests during the rainy season as the damaging of Pineapple crop may happen during the rainy season or the monsoon.

The harvesting and yield with the pineapple plants which flowers in 12-15 months and after getting the plants well placed in the field through ploughing and digging the trench in the soil which is well drenched and right texture managed through mixing of manure the land got prepared for pineapple cultivation. The varieties of Pineapple which are grown in Goa are Giant Kew along with Queen and Red Spanish. Trench planting is usually followed in Kerala but with the four different planting system such as flat-bed, furrow and simple laying through high soil platform making the yield come up with the highest harvest.

Although, Goa is not a state which use to yield the highest percentage in terms of Pineapple production still it has increased to 4900 Tonnes with the estimated area under cultivation and has suddenly increased as the farmers found it to be a good fruit with higher returns. The fruit is used in various agro-based products along with high demand in bakery units. The good demand of fruits has included pineapples in the state and as according to the local farmers it is said that they go for the right fruit in terms of size and quality thus making the state for getting profit in terms of extra money.

Cultivation Locations: Bardez, Bicholim, Pernem, Ponda, Sattari, Tiswadi, Dharbandora, Canacona, Mormugao, Salcette, Sanguem and Quepem.
