Mangueshi Temple is the most famous pilgrimage destination in Goa state. It is most visited temple of the state. It is situated at Mangeshi Village, Ponda taluka. It is just 21 kilometers distance from Panjim city. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in format Bhagavan Manguesh. Temple complex also has god Ganesha and goddess Parvati idols. This temple prayer (Pujas) performed daily many times which includes morning, noon, evening and night. There are many festival celebrates devotees here which includes Diwali, Rama Navami, Mahashivratri, Dussera and Navaratri etc. Generally, this origins temple was located at Kushasthali Cortalim village but is destroyed by Portuguese in 1543 but devotees it shifted to Priol village (ponda taluka). This temple renovated in 1890 by Marathas rulers. Latest is renovation in 1973 which golden kalasha. Temple has a big hall which called sabha griha. It has big space to accommodates over 500 people together with safe and secure.
Mangueshi Temple is one of the ancient temple and is located at Mangueshi Village in Priol, Ponda Taluk, Goa. It is at a distance of 1 Km from Mandol close to Nagueshi which is 21 Km from Panaji the Capital of Goa. It is one of the largest and most frequently visited temples in Goa. The temple along others in the area institutes a dress code on visitors of the temple. The temple had its origin in Kushasthali Cortalim on the banks of the River Ahganasini and is present at the place which was ruled by the Hindu Kings of Sonde of Antruz Mahal( Ponda) and it has been rebuilt and renovated twice during the reign of the Marathas again in the year 1890.
The main temple is dedicated to the main deity which is Bhagwan Manguesh who is an incarnation of Shiva and is worshiped here as Shiv Linga. According, to the legend, Shiva become tiger to scare the wife and with the sighting of tiger the Parvati got afraid and called the Father by saying Trahi Ma’am. After which Shiva come back to real form and with that the temple got established by the name of Mangueshi.
