Margao City, Goa

Margao City is one of the second largest city by population in Goa. The city is said to be cultural capital city of Goa and it is said to be the city with two shrines of Matsyendranath and Gorakhnath. The other important thing about the city was the pre-Portuguese with some important settlements in Salecte along with Matha Grama which is the village of Mathas. The nine Mathas in Temple schools which was built during the ancient city of Margao has given a unique state which is spiritual as well as historical. The Holy Spirit Church along with other Churches are built all around the state and the city since it was founded has grown manifolds.

The city is 33 Kms from Panjim and 27 Km from Vasco da Gama with great climatic conditions where Summers are warm and the annual average rainfall is very heavy with gusty winds blowing all over. The city is pioneer in education and it has many education institutes such as schools and colleges with the oldest one being the Loyola High School which is near the bus stand. The other prominent schools includes St. Joseph High School. The Konkan railways division is in Margao and the beautiful landscape is found to be bountiful with natural surroundings. The city is a famous tourist destination and has number of places which includes the Municipal Garden named after the benefactor Prince Aga Khan along with Anna Fonte which is the name of the natural springs and the Old Market or Mercado Valley. The Holy Spirit Church is another most visited place and if the places of worship are to be visited then there are temples like Damodar temple, The Hari Mandir, The Maruti Mandir, The Shiv temple and the 2 Mosques in Margao. One can say that altogether it is one of the great places to visit and is the cultural capital of Goa.

Madgaon or Madagav or Margao city is the cultural and commercial capital of the Goa state which is second largest populated city of the state. It is also the headquarter of the south Goa district. This is the evergreen climate city which approx average temperature is 28 °C and 20 °C. The city is also state's main railway junction which all trains stop. It is well connected to National Highway 17. Its nearest attractions are city hall, Municipal Garden, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, St. Sebastian Church and local shopping markets.
