Mapusa is the small remarkable town which is also spelt as Maphsa and the town is known to be cute with capital of the Bardez Taluk. The capital of Goa which is Panaji is located 13 Kms from here and one can easily reach there with bus or taxi. This is a small bustling town with activities all around along with being a popular tourist destination which has a lot of beaches. The city of Mapusa is famous for its beaches such as Calangute, Candolim, Anjuna and Baga which attracts tourists from all over the world. The name of Mapusa means “the market place” and “the trade” place which was known for the Dutch Chronicler who were known to settle at this place and the Friday market was described as “The Bazzar Grande”. The great popularity of the Mapusa market was due to the ancient festivals dedicated to “God Kankeshwar Baba” and location of the “Friday Market” at the Centre of commercial activity along with the proximity of the religious site has made the city to develop into the current scope and size which is a small bustling town these days.
